Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the triumphant Indian women's cricket team and their head coach Amol Muzumdar at his residence, Lok Kalyan Marg, on Wednesday (November 5), to celebrate their World Cup victory.

The meeting came just days after India lifted the trophy at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai on Sunday, November 5.

PM Modi congratulated the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side for their stunning victory and lauded the team's remarkable comeback after suffering three straight defeats earlier in the tournament. The Prime Minister shared words of encouragement and appreciation, acknowledging the players' resilience and fighting spirit.

Harmanpreet's Heartfelt Reflection

Captain Harmanpreet Kaur recalled a nostalgic memory from 2017, saying, "We met the Prime Minister then without the trophy. Now, we have met him with the trophy, and we wish to meet him more often." The PM praised her leadership and the team's unity that carried them to the top.

Motivation and Inspiration from the PM

Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana shared how meeting the Prime Minister was deeply motivating. "PM had motivated us and has been an inspiration for all of us," she said, adding, "Girls are doing well in all fields today, and it is because of PM."

All-rounder Deepti Sharma also expressed her happiness, saying she had long waited for this meeting. She recalled their earlier interaction with the PM in 2017, saying, "PM had asked us to keep working hard, and then we would achieve our dream."

During the light-hearted exchange, the Prime Minister mentioned Deepti Sharma's "Jai Shri Ram" post on Instagram and her tattoo of Bhagwan Hanuman, noting how it symbolizes strength and devotion. Deepti smiled and said it indeed gives her power on the field.

Harmanpreet asked the PM how he manages to always remain in the present moment. Modi replied that it has "been a part of his life and become his habit."

The Prime Minister fondly brought up Harmanpreet's gesture of pocketing the match-winning ball after the final, to which she said, "I was lucky that the ball came to me, and I kept it."

The conversation also turned to Amanjot Kaur's much-discussed juggling catch in the final. Amanjot laughed, saying, "This is one fumble which I like to see." Modi responded with wit, "While catching, you must be seeing the ball, but after the catch, you must be seeing the trophy."
