Yashasvi Jaiswal, India one one of the rising star and famous for his explosive batting style, is on the brink of making history in the World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. He needs 132 more runs to set a new record for the most runs by an Indian in a single WTC edition. Jaiswal is slated to open with Rohit Sharma in the upcoming two-match Test series against Bangladesh, starting on 19th September in Chennai.
Jaiswal has already amassed 1,028 runs in the current WTC cycle. If he scores the required runs across these two Tests, he will surpass Ajinkya Rahane's record of 1,159 runs from the 2019-21 cycle. Notably, Jaiswal is among only three Indian batters, alongside Rahane and Rohit Sharma, to achieve over 1,000 runs in a single WTC cycle.

The Indian cricket team currently leads the WTC standings with a points percentage of 68.52. Their schedule includes home series against Bangladesh and New Zealand and an away series against Australia. Meanwhile, Bangladesh enters this series with confidence after defeating Pakistan 2-0 on their soil.
Bangladesh's recent triumph over Pakistan included a dominant 10-wicket win in the first Test and a six-wicket victory in the second. This marks their first Test series win on Pakistani soil, showcasing their formidable form ahead of facing India.

India's squad for the first Test against Bangladesh features key players like Rohit Sharma as captain and Yashasvi Jaiswal as an opener.
