Om Puri's First Wife Seema Kapoor Recalls Losing Unborn Child After Marriage Breakdown

Actor and writer Seema Kapoor recently opened up about the most painful chapters of her life. The actress spoke candidly about her marriage with late actor Om Puri, their separation and the personal loss she had to endure during that period.

In the interview, Seema reflected on the emotional turmoil she faced after discovering Om Puri's relationship with journalist and author Nandita Puri. Her mental wellbeing was so compromised that she suffered with the pain of losing her her unborn child.

'That Child Was Very Precious to Me'

In the interview, Seema recalled how devastating the loss was for her. The actress shifted her focus on building a future with her unborn child after her marriage fell apart.
She said, "Unfortunately kya hua ki baccha mera nahi bach paya. Woh uss samay mere liye bahut precious tha. Kyunki Puri sahab ab laut ke aane wale nahi the. Main zindagi mein kabhi shaadi karne wali nahi thi. Toh woh baccha tha aur woh nahi hua.

Seema shared that after learning about Om Puri's alleged affair with Nandita Puri, she left and stayed with her mother in Rajasthan. However, the distance only deepened the rift between the couple. During this time period, Nandita grew closer to Om. Eventually, Seema and Om's marriage ended in divorce. Later, in 1993, Om Puri married Nandita.

Om Puri Later Apologised, Says Seema

After undergoing a painful separation, Seema mentioned that Om Puri expressed regret over the past. According to her, the actor apologised years later, before his major surgery in London when he was uncertain about the outcome.

Why Annu Kapoor Wanted to Fight a Legal Battle

Seema also spoke about the support she received from her brother, actor Annu Kapoor, during the challenging period. Annu was deeply affected by her sister's suffering and wanted to take legal action against Om.

She said, "Saare log yeh chahte the, khaas taur se Annu bhai kyunki woh mujhe bahut pyaar karte hai. Woh mujhe dukh mein nahi dekh sakte thay. Isliye woh ladna chahte the, kanooni ladai ladna chahte the. Lekin main kisi tarah ki ladai nahi ladna chahti thi.

Seema's family was prepared to stand by her in court but, she chose not to pursue any legal confrontation.

Annu Kapoor Once Said Om Puri 'Ruined' His Sister's Life

Earlier, in an interview, Annu Kapoor had spoken openly about his complicated feelings towards Om Puri. Although Annu praised him as an actor, he expressed extreme disappointment over how he treated Seema.

He said, "Om Puri was a phenomenal actor. There was no great actor like him, but that is a different matter. He became someone's husband, and after becoming someone's husband, he betrayed a woman, and that is where things went wrong, and I am that woman's brother."

Annu further added, "He would have gone 10 years earlier, it was my sister who took care of him. When his body became weak and fragile, then he came back. I was also angry and upset with my sister."

'I Have No Enmity Towards Anyone'

Annu admitted to carry anger towards Om for years. However, Annu he said that now, he has moved on and harbours no ill feelings towards Om Puri's family.

"Today, Om Puri saab is not there, his son is there. Even today, I pray to God for his son and for his ex-wife Nandita. I have no enmity towards anyone, but there is regret that my sister Seema Kapoor's life was ruined; she has no support," he said.

The actor further added, "If I start telling those stories, it will become messy, because the brother inside me will come out. Om Puri was also very scared of me, because I speak bluntly. I am not afraid. I was helpless, I could not do anything."

Om Puri's Personal Life

Om Puri died at the age of 66 in 2017. The actor first married writer and actor Seema Kapoor in 1991. However, the marriage lasted less than a year and in 1993, Om Puri married journalist Nandita Puri. Their marriage ended in 2013 and the pair have a son named Ishaan.
