IND vs ENG, ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 Highlights: Rohit Sharma, Bowlers Star In Big India Win Over England

Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Shami showcased exceptional performances during their opening spells after Rohit Sharma's resilient knock of 87 runs on a challenging pitch. India secured a convincing 100-run victory over England in the ongoing ICC Cricket World Cup on Sunday (October 29), marking their sixth consecutive win in the tournament.

Rohit Sharma's exceptional innings of 87 runs off 101 balls was the highlight of the match, especially since most Indian batsmen struggled on the unpredictable pitch. Suryakumar Yadav also made a valuable contribution with 49 runs in the final overs, pushing India to a total of 229 for nine.

India's bowling duo of Shami, who claimed 4 wickets for 22 runs, and Bumrah, who took 3 wickets for 32 runs, was the key to their victory. England's batsmen found themselves in dire straits, managing only 129 runs all out in 34.5 overs, resulting in their fifth loss in six games.

This defeat virtually eliminated England from semifinal contention, while India, the only unbeaten team in the tournament, is now on the brink of securing a semifinal spot.

India's below-par total required early wickets to put pressure on a struggling England batting lineup. Bumrah and Shami delivered an excellent opening spell, reducing England to 39 for four in the 10th over.

Both bowlers troubled the batsmen with a Test match-like length, resulting in Bumrah having a chance for a hat-trick after dismissing Dawid Malan and Joe Root in successive balls, while Shami dismissed Jonny Bairstow and Ben Stokes in the same fashion.

Shami later returned to dismiss Moeen Ali, securing his third wicket. At 81 for six, England had no hope of a comeback. Despite dew on the pitch in the evening, it didn't pose a problem for India's bowlers.

In their innings, India batted first for the first time in the tournament. Rohit Sharma and Suryakumar Yadav were the only ones who managed to adapt to the challenging pitch conditions. They formed a crucial partnership of 91 runs after India had a shaky start at 40 for three in the 12th over. Rohit added 33 more runs with Suryakumar, but his dismissal triggered a collapse.

England showcased a commendable performance with both the ball and in the field. Chris Woakes, Adil Rashid, and David Willey were particularly effective in picking up wickets. Rohit Sharma's masterful innings was the highlight, as he demonstrated his skills against both pace and spin bowlers, using a variety of shots to score his 87 runs.

Despite the absence of Hardik Pandya, India opted for five bowlers, leaving R Ashwin out of the playing eleven. The match witnessed strong support from a crowd of 46,000 spectators in favor of the home team.
