CSK IPL 2025 Players List: Check Chennai Super Kings Tentative Squad For Indian Premier League 2025

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) have Rs 55 crore available for the IPL 2025 auction, with one Right to Match (RTM) card left. They are likely to target players such as Devon Conway and Wanindu Hasaranga. CSK finished fifth in the IPL 2024 points table, narrowly missing out on the playoffs.

CSK has retained its core team, a strategy they often employ before mega-auctions. They need to fill six slots in their playing eleven, or seven if considering an Impact Player. Their wishlist might include a top-order batter who bowls spin, a couple of capped Indian pacers, possibly an overseas quick, and a foreign opener.

Potential Player Targets

Devon Conway is a natural fit for CSK. He was their leading run-scorer in the 2023 title-winning season and won Player of the Match in the final. His partnership with Gaikwad is strong, and he can also keep wickets. A foreign opener like Conway is essential for CSK's lineup.

Rahul Tripathi could be another ideal choice for CSK. Although his career has stalled recently, he has a point to prove. Tripathi can bat at number three and brings intent that CSK sometimes lacked last year. He has experience working with Dhoni and Fleming at Rising Pune Supergiant.

Glenn Maxwell is a T20 superstar who fits CSK's preference for spin-bowling all-rounders. In previous auctions, CSK showed interest in Maxwell but were priced out of a deal. This time around, they might succeed if they find bargains elsewhere.

Strategic Auction Approach

With Rs 65 crore in their budget, CSK will navigate tricky bidding wars by potentially avoiding marquee Indian players due to high costs. This may disappoint fans hoping to see Rishabh Pant or KL Rahul in yellow jerseys. Instead, they might focus on overseas players and hard-hitting all-rounders.

Among Indians, CSK will look for batters and bowlers with past connections to the franchise or those fitting specific roles. The rest of the squad could consist of clever uncapped buys. Despite having less money than some teams due to retaining five players, CSK usually constructs strong squads from mega-auctions.

Key Overseas Options

Venkatesh Iyer could be an appealing option for CSK due to their historical preference for left-handed top-order batters. Iyer's seam-bowling adds value as he can bat anywhere in the top four, providing flexibility alongside Gaikwad.

Glenn Phillips offers versatility as both a batter and off-spinner while being an exceptional fielder. His strike rate exceeds 140 across T20 cricket formats making him valuable for CSK's plans.

Liam Livingstone should also be on CSK's radar given his ability to bowl both off-spin and leg-spin based on match-ups while hitting long distances when batting-demonstrated during Punjab Kings' victory over them last season at Chepauk.

Spin Options at Chepauk

The ball spinning at Chepauk is inevitable; hence having world-class spinners like Wanindu Hasaranga makes sense within their lineup since he doubles up as a floater within batting order too-making him an excellent pick overall!

For RTM options among overseas players: Conway remains prominent alongside Rachin Ravindra or Maheesh Theekshana being considered possibilities too!

Their strategic approach involves focusing more on international talents rather than expensive domestic stars while ensuring well-roundedness throughout squad composition via smart acquisitions during upcoming auction events ahead!
