"Country Over My Child": Hemang Badani Reveals KL Rahul's Big Decision
KL Rahul showcased his batting prowess by scoring a century in the first Test against England in Leeds. Despite the team's loss, Rahul's performance was commendable. He had earlier scored 42 runs in his first innings. Rahul has been opening for India since Rohit Sharma retired in May. Known for his adaptability, he has consistently met expectations.
Delhi Capitals' head coach Hemang Badani praised Rahul's dedication to the team. "I really liked the fact that he was someone who said, 'I want to go to England early. I want to play the side game.' Forget about the hundred he got - that came later. The intent - that's what matters. The intent to be there early, to be prepared, to be with the side. Let's not forget, he's a young father, and I don't think his child is travelling with him initially. So for him to say, 'Country over my child' - that's a huge call," Hemang Badani told Times of India.

Rahul's Commitment and Leadership
Badani highlighted Rahul's choice to prioritise national duty over personal commitments. Despite becoming a father in March, Rahul focused on preparing for the England series. His decision to participate in an Intra-Squad match before the Test series demonstrated his commitment.
Rahul expressed his dedication by stating his desire to be part of the team in England. "KL made a statement I remember ahead of the Test series: 'I care for this team, and I want to be here.' He wanted to go to England. I could see the hunger in his eyes and in his words," Badani noted.
Guiding Young Players
With senior players like Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli absent, Rahul stepped up as a leader. He took on the responsibility of guiding younger teammates such as Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill. His experience playing in England has been invaluable for these emerging players.
"He's played in England before. And in terms of maturity and technique, you can clearly see he's more focused now," Badani added. Rahul's role as a mentor is crucial for India's young squad members, most of whom are under 30.
