Jharkhand Floor Test: CM Champai Soren To Prove Mandate Today

Jharkhand Floor Test: After taking the oath as the new Chief Minister of Jharkhand, JMM's senior leader Chamapi Soren has to prove the mandate on Monday. According to the reports, around 40 MLAs of Jharkhand Mukti Morch, Congress, and RJD are returning back to Ranchi.

All the lawmakers were kept in a resort near Hyderabad to avoid horse-trading. The reports added that CM Champai Soren's predecessor Hemant Soren, who is in Enforcement Directorate's custody in relation to the alleged corruption case, will also take part in the Jharkhad Floor test. Hemant Soren got permission from the Court to cast his vote during the Jharkhand floor test.

Notably, the floor test will be held according to 80 seats and not 81 as one seat is vacant. The majority mark is 41.

With JMM's 28, Congress' 16, Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) 1, and 1 of Communist Party of India (ML) votes, a total of 46 MLAs are in support of CM Champai Soren, which means, it is going to be an easy task for the newly formed government to pass the floor test, unless there will be any last minute twist.

On the other hand, the BJP and its allies have the support of only 29 MLAs.

Earlier, in September 2022, JMM had proved its majority with 48 votes in favor of the government.

About CM Champai Soren:

Champai Soren, one of the most senior leaders and co-founder of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), was picked up by former CM Hemant Soren for the top most position is the state, when speculations were more for his wife Kalpana Soren and sister-in-law Sita Soren.

The 65-year-old is said to be close to JMM Founder Shibu Soren.
