I was gangraped because I worked for BJP, claims Muslim leader

, April 29: A local BJP leader was allegedly gang raped by a group of unidentified people at Masmano village in Ranchi district, police said Tuesday.

The men barged into her residence and raped her on Sunday, they said. The men also beat up her husband and abused their 13-year-old daughter before decamping with cash and jewellery worth Rs 30,000, police said.

Efforts are on to nab the accused, they said.

The BJP leader was approached by other parties a few years ago but she declined

An Agence France Press report said the victim, in her 30s, was part of a "minority" wing of the Bharatiya Janata Party designed to attract Muslim voters to the party. She reportedly alleged she was raped because of her working for BJP in ongoing Lok Sabha elections.

According to a Times of India report, an FIR was lodged with Chanho police station, 45km from Ranchi, on Monday and said seven robbers raped her and then robbed her. All the accused are Muslims.She also said that the Congress and Jharkhand Janadhikar Manch of Mandar had approached her five years ago to join their parties but she declined, the report added.
