(Graphics) Baby girl born without skull dies in Jharkhand

Hazaribagh, June 14: A baby girl was born on Saturday, June 11 in Harzaribagh district of Jharkhand without brain, skull and scalp, due to a rare cephalic disorder, which is commonly known as Anencephaly. The baby passed away after eight hour of birth as it was a fatal condition.

A medical officer told OneIndia that " It is basically a celphalic disorder which occurs due to a neural tube defect that occurs when the rostral (head) end of the neural tube fails to close. This usually occurs between the 23rd and the 26th day of conception."

"A huge crowed gather to see the girl child with the rare disorder. Earlier the child was referred to Sadar hoapital of Bishnugarh for further treatment, but the child died due to facial malformation," Sharma said.

Explaining more about the case, he also said, "Besides this case, there are dozens of similar cases in Jharkhand and other parts of the state. In such cases, a baby born with anencephaly is usually blind, deaf, unaware of its surroundings and unable to feel pain."

The child was born to a farmer couple in Hazaribagh ( Bishnugarh) at the primary government hospital. She was being attended by Medical officers.
