Former Jharkhand Chief Minister Champai Soren Hospitalised

Champai Soren, a former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, was admitted to Tata Main Hospital in Jamshedpur due to blood sugar complications. An official reported that he was hospitalised around 9 pm on Saturday. A close associate mentioned that his blood sugar levels dropped, causing dizziness, which led to his hospitalisation. Dr Sudhir Rai, the hospital's GM, confirmed that Soren's condition is stable and improving.

Champai Soren took over as Jharkhand's Chief Minister on February 2 after Hemant Soren resigned following an arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in a money laundering case. Champai later stepped down, allowing Hemant to resume office in July after securing bail. On August 30, Champai joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) alongside Union Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma.

Political Journey of Champai Soren

Champai Soren, a 67-year-old tribal leader known as 'Jharkhand's Tiger,' played a significant role in advocating for Jharkhand's statehood during the 1990s. He began his political career as an Independent MLA from Saraikela in undivided Bihar in 1991. Four years later, he won the assembly seat on a JMM ticket by defeating BJP's Panchu Tudu.

In the 2000 elections, Champai lost to BJP's Anant Ram Tudu but reclaimed the seat in 2005 with a narrow victory margin of 880 votes. He continued his winning streak in subsequent elections held in 2009, 2014, and 2019. His dedication earned him respect and recognition within Jharkhand's political landscape.

Champai Soren resigned from the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM), citing dissatisfaction with its current policies and functioning style. He also stepped down as an MLA and minister in the state's cabinet. His decision marked a significant shift after years of service to JMM.

The creation of Jharkhand from Bihar's southern region occurred in 2000, largely due to efforts by leaders like Champai Soren. Despite facing challenges throughout his political journey, he remained committed to representing tribal interests and contributing to state development.

As Champai transitions into his new role within BJP, his influence and experience are expected to impact Jharkhand politics significantly. His move has garnered attention amid upcoming state assembly elections where political dynamics are rapidly evolving.
