Dhanbad: Coal mine roof collapses, 4 dead, over 50 trapped

Dhanbad, Nov 11: At least four people are feared dead and over 50 people are trapped inside a coal mine in Dhanbad on Monday, Nov 11. The tragedy took place when the roof of the mine collapsed.

However, District Collector of Dhanbad -- Prashant Kumar overruled reports regarding numbers of dead people. Mr Kumar was quoted as saying, "Seven people are trapped of which three have been brought out unhurt and one person has died."

A rescue team rushed the place to help the trapped miners. According to TV reports, rescue officials have been trying to cut put big chunks of rock to bring out people.

Mr Kumar reportedly told that the ceiling of the coal mine was disturbed. The Basantimata Colliery coal mine, where the tragedy has taken place, belongs to the state-owned Bharat Coking Coal Limited in Jharkhand's Dhanbad district. According to reports, the colliery follows the open cast method of mining.
