Pune Weather Alert: Rain to Continue Till July 8, IMD Issues Alert for Ghat Areas; Check Travel Advisory

After witnessing cloudy skies and scattered rainfall on Wednesday, Pune city is set to experience light to moderate rain over the next five days, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in ghat regions of the district, particularly on July 5 and 6.

The IMD has urged citizens to remain cautious, especially while traveling through hilly areas such as Lonavala, Tamhini, and Lavasa, due to the risk of waterlogging, flash floods, and reduced visibility.

Rain Forecast for Pune (July 4-8):

July 4: Cloudy skies with light rainfall across most parts of the city. Heavy showers likely in some ghat locations.

July 5 & 6: Cloudy conditions with light to moderate rainfall. Heavy to very heavy showers expected in higher elevation areas.

July 7 & 8: Continued overcast skies with light to moderate rain across the city.

Ghat Regions Receive Heaviest Rainfall

In the 24-hour period ending 9 am on July 4, ghat areas recorded the most rainfall in Pune district. According to the IMD:

Kurvande: 116.5 mm

Bhor: 92.0 mm

Girivan: 82.0 mm

Nimgiri: 62.5 mm

These hilly zones continue to face intense rainfall activity and are under watch for potential localized flooding.

Shivajinagar: 13.5 mm

Chinchwad: 9.5 mm

Hadapsar: 9.0 mm

Narayangaon & Purandar: 3.5 mm each

Dapodi & Dudulgaon: 3.0 mm each

Koregaon Park: 1.5 mm

Daund: 0.5 mm

IMD Issues Travel Advisory

Due to the ongoing monsoon activity, the IMD has advised citizens to:

Avoid non-essential travel to ghat regions

Stay updated via official weather bulletins

Watch out for waterlogging, slippery roads, and low visibility in hill routes

As rainfall persists, the Pune Municipal Corporation and disaster management authorities are on alert to respond to emergencies.
