Pondy BJP unit for curtailing timing of liquor outlets
Puducherry May 31: Puducherry BJP unit on Tuesday, May 31 urged Lt Governor Kiran Bedi to initiate steps to reduce the business timing of arrack and liquor retail outlets in the union territory as had been done in other States.
Unit President R V Saminathan, in a statement, said the longer hours of businesses from 8 am to 11 pm was affecting daily wage earners' families as they do not turn up for work.

There were also shops functioning in the close vicinity of educational institutions and places of worship and also on main thoroughfares here, he said. The new Lt Governor should intervene and rectify the situation.
There should also be check posts at various border points to prevent drunk driving as accidents had been on the rise, he said.
