Differently abled woman raped in Pune hospital lift

of Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) in Bhosari. The incident had taken place in the hospital lift on Thursday evening but came to light only two days after when the victimised woman told the rehabilitation officer at her shelter home, also in Bhosari, after returning.

The officer immediately lodged a police complaint on Sunday and the culprits were arrested on the basis of the description given by the victim. The woman was undergoing treatment for pneumonia in the hospital.

The arrested duo was identified as watchman Pramod Manohar Mandekar, 28, and ward boy Shailendra Dagdu Yadav, 30. They have been slapped under the relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and were taken to the court of the judicial magistrate (first class). They were remanded in police custody till September 4.

The two staff members took the ill woman inside the lift and committed the crime

Police sources said the two men took the ill woman inside a lift in the name of shifting her and committed the crime. The victim kept silent at that time and told the nurse that she wanted to return to her shelter home. She was sent back.

She later claimed that one of the two men raped her while another helped him. She was helped with speech therapy to express herself for she has a speech problem. The police were trying to find out who actually raped her.

PCMC authorities said they have begun a probe into the incident and are also waiting for the police and medical reports.

Meanwhile, women from various political parties demonstrated outside the Bhosari police station on Sunday and demanded that the two arrested persons be handed over to them so that they could given a lesson.
