Jharkhand: 8 held for gang-rape of minor girls
Ranchi: The Jharkhand police on Tuesday arrested eight men who reportedly gang-raped four minor girls.
As per reports, suspects gang-raped the girls at the gun-point.
The gruesome incident happened at Lobda village under Littipara police station in Pakur district when four minor girls were forcefully abducted from girls' hostel and gang-raped by 25 armed men on last Sunday night.
According to villagers, the abductors took away four girls to the forest area and took turns to rape them.
Terming the incident as shocking, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said that a team would visit the area to probe the incident which occurred at a secluded spot near the school run by a mission.
"Eight of the nine accused have been arrested, and the one remaining will be caught soon," he told reporters in the presence of DGP Rajeev Kumar and Home Secretary N N Pandey.
"The government will take the responsibility for the minor girls' education and train them in self-defence," he said.
The DGP said the arrested persons belong to Santhal Parganas.
The girls are reportedly 12 to 14 years of age and belong from the Paharia tribe.
