“Standing up against violence and voicing-out your opinions is important” says Ms. Veera Mahajan

Domestic abuse is one of the most common but unreported crimes which is know to go unavoided due to people not voicing out the crime. It is a common misconception that domestic violence only occurs in rural parts of any country, but in reality it exists in every part of the society. It is extremely important to put out a strong message in regards to the same to ensure that no domestic violence goes unreported. Someone needs to know if abuse is happening. Having a witness goes a long way if you end up taking an action against the perpetrator.

While there are a lot of people who try and resonate with people who have faced domestic violence, but Ms. Veera Mahajan's book 'Domestic abuse is UNREPORTED crime', gives us insights on how grave the issue truly is. When we spoke to her asking about what inspired her to write the book, she mentioned, "Being a survivor myself of spousal abuse, I myself had o find the help and strength to finally acknowledge that I was living in abuse, and that gave me strength to leave my abusive situation.

That's when I decided to help others escape domestic abuse. I wanted my life to have a meaning. Through my book, i got a chance to interview many who like me-suffered-yet overcame abuse. Through my book, I wish to encourage many from around the world who have been living in abusive situations, to better recognize the reality of their situation, get out of denial, take action, ask for help and save themselves and their children, as Veera did.

Demonstrating they are not alone, I wish to show that with the right help through their efforts and the assistance of others, a life of happiness and freedom waits for them on the other side."

When asked her more about her journey and achievements, she happily said, "My crowning achievements have been real-life coaching, mediation, and training others in the field; in the homes, schools, colleges, and churches of her community. I am pleased to be a light to others for that very hope, and to be the guide for them to follow me on that great new path that I have carved for myself towards victory and peace by loving myself so much that no one can dare to hurt me again! Life is good!!
