Goa's Sunburn EDM Festival Lands In Soup, Complaint Filed For Using Lord Shiva's Pic

Organizers of Goa's most popular Sunburn EDM event landed in a soup after police complaints were been filed against them ahead of the new year. According to the reports, complaints have been lodged in Goa's Panji by the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party leaders stating that using lord Shiva's picture at such an event is an insult to the lord and has hurt their religious sentiments.

Sunburn EDM, is one of the most popular electronic dance music festivals among the youth worldwide, which happens at the time of the new year. The music festival is slated from December 28 to 30 at Vagator in North Goa.

The complaint has been registered at the Mapusa Police Station by Congress leader Vijay Bhike against the organizers of the event, where alcohol is being served.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) Goa President Amit Palekar has also complained about the same and demanded strict and swift action against the organizers for using Lord Shiva's picture and hurting the sentiments of "Sanatana Dharma".

Talking to the media, Palekar said "We saw that Lord Shankar's image was used during the festival. It was flashed on the LED screen when people were drunk and dancing."

"The use of our God for the purpose of the EDM festival where alcohol is served is not right. We have called up the director general of police demanding registration of an offense against Sunburn festival organizers," Palekar added.

His counterpart, Congress leader Bhike, in his written complaint submitted at the Mapusa police station, said: "Organizers have intentionally insulted the religious feelings of Hindus by portraying that Lord Shiva supports drinking alcohol, consumption of prohibited substances and all other illicit activities that take place during the event".

Taking cognizance of the incident and accepting complaints from both political party representatives, a senior police official said that the matter will be investigated and if anyone is found guilty then the action will be taken against the culprits according to the law.
