Arvind Kejriwal Calls for Corruption-Free, Developed Goa on Liberation Day

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) national convenor Arvind Kejriwal took to Twitter on Friday to greet the people of Goa on the occasion of Goa Liberation Day. The coastal state was freed from Portuguese rule on December 19, 1961.

Kejriwal's message read: "On the occasion of Goa Liberation Day, I extend my heartfelt greetings to the wonderful people of Goa. Let us honour our freedom fighters by pledging to build a corruption-free Goa with accessible healthcare, better roads and employment opportunities for all."

The AAP's focus on governance in Goa has been particularly visible through its healthcare initiatives. In July 2023, the party launched its first "Good Health" clinic in Benaulim, the constituency represented by AAP MLA Venzy Viegas. Inspired by the successful Mohalla Clinic model implemented in Delhi and Punjab, the facility marked a significant step in the party's governance outreach in the state.

The initiative was later expanded to the neighbouring Velim constituency, represented by MLA Cruz Silva. Since then, AAP has been actively organising health camps across Salcete and surrounding regions, bringing affordable and quality healthcare to residents. Party leaders say these clinics are central to AAP's promise of accessible and citizen-focused governance in Goa.

With the Zilla Panchayat elections scheduled for December 20, AAP faces a crucial test of its governance model in the constituencies of Benaulim, Colva, Velim and Curtorim. Political observers note that the party's performance in these areas could define its standing as a major political force in Goa, especially following its breakthrough victories in the 2022 Assembly elections.

Five years after making its electoral debut in Benaulim, AAP is working to consolidate its base while expanding its presence in neighbouring constituencies. Party strategists are confident that the visible impact of initiatives like the Good Health clinics and community engagement efforts will resonate with voters.

Observers say a strong showing for AAP in the upcoming polls could not only reinforce the party's image as a governance-focused alternative but also encourage the expansion of similar citizen-centric models in other parts of Goa.

As Goa marks the anniversary of its liberation, Kejriwal's message underscores a commitment to honouring the past while striving for development, transparency and public welfare in the present. For the AAP, the combination of effective grassroots governance and citizen engagement remains central to its strategy in the state.
