Who is Meghnad S? Meet the YouTuber Contesting Against Somnath Bharti in Delhi Polls
YouTuber and journalist Meghnad S has stepped into the political arena, contesting as an independent candidate from the Malviya Nagar constituency in the Delhi Assembly Elections. Voting for the constituency was held on February 5, and Meghnad is up against Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Somnath Bharti, a three-time MLA seeking re-election.
A High-Stakes Battle in Malviya Nagar

Malviya Nagar has emerged as a key battleground between the ruling AAP, the opposition BJP, and the resurgent Congress. In the 2020 elections, Somnath Bharti secured victory over BJP's Shailender Singh by a significant margin of 18,000 votes. This time, Bharti faces stiff competition not only from Meghnad but also from BJP's Satish Upadhyay and Congress's Jitender Kumar Kochar.
Meghnad S: A Fresh Face in Politics
At 35 years old, Meghnad brings a fresh perspective to the political landscape. With a background in public policy and content creation, he describes himself as a "normie" candidate, offering an alternative to career politicians. His election symbol, the pen, reflects his belief in the power of educated individuals to drive change.
"I take pride in being an independent candidate. My primary goal is to prove a point: hyper-local leaders can best address local issues. My only boss is YOU, the people of Malviya Nagar," Meghnad said in a recent interview with The Times of India, highlighting his grassroots approach to politics.
As part of his campaign, Meghnad released a song titled Dilli Ka Normie Neta on his YouTube channel, Meghnerd. The song humorously yet pointedly addresses common issues like traffic congestion, pollution, and civic problems in Delhi.
The lyrics of the first stanza translate to: "Not a Hindu or Muslim, your leader will be a nerd.He will take care of roads, air, and water, and your issues will be solved.Hi, my name is Meghnad,I'll take care of Malviya Nagar's people."
Another line reinforces his outsider status in politics: "Not your usual politician, I don't make tall claims,So choose the pen on an EV machine once."
A Litmus Test for Meghnad S
The 2025 Delhi Assembly elections mark Meghnad's first foray into electoral politics. He has disclosed a net worth of ₹55.1 lakh, with movable assets amounting to ₹55.1 lakh and liabilities of ₹1 lakh. Unlike many traditional candidates, Meghnad has no criminal record and is funding his campaign through his earnings as a content creator and author.
His entry into the race shakes up a contest that has long been dominated by established political parties. While AAP's Somnath Bharti and BJP's Satish Upadhyay bring years of political experience, Meghnad aims to connect with voters seeking change.
With Delhi election results set to be declared on February 8, 2025, it remains to be seen whether Meghnad's unconventional campaign can translate into electoral success. Will the people of Malviya Nagar embrace a 'normie' candidate, or will the traditional political heavyweights hold their ground? The answer lies in the ballots cast on polling day.
