Who Is Godman Chaitanyananda Saraswati Accused of Sexually Harassing Women in Delhi Scandal?

A self-proclaimed godman, Swami Chaitanyananda Saraswati, also known as Parth Sarthy, is embroiled in a major scandal in Delhi. Allegations of molestation have been made by female students at the Sri Sharda Institute of Indian Management. Saraswati, who served as the institute's director, has gone missing following accusations of sexual harassment and forgery.

Allegations and Investigation

Seventeen out of 32 female students have provided statements to the police. They accused Saraswati of using abusive language, sending obscene messages via WhatsApp or SMS, and making unwanted physical contact. The investigation into these allegations led to the discovery of a Volvo car with a fake diplomatic number plate in the institute's basement.

The first complaint against Saraswati was lodged on August 4 at Vasant Kunj North Police Station. A separate case for cheating and forgery was filed on August 25 after the vehicle was found. Since then, Saraswati has been untraceable, complicating efforts to resolve the case.

Institutional Response

The Sri Sri Jagadguru Shankaracharya Mahasamsthanam Dakshinamnaya Sri Sharada Peetham has distanced itself from Saraswati. The organisation stated that his actions were "illegal, inappropriate, and detrimental" to its interests. This move reflects the severity of the allegations against him.

In addition to student testimonies, some faculty members and administrators allegedly pressured students to comply with Saraswati's demands. This has raised concerns about systemic issues within the institution that may have enabled such behaviour.

Authorities have taken significant steps in their investigation. They have reviewed CCTV footage from the institute and conducted raids. Materials seized during these operations are undergoing forensic analysis to gather more evidence against Saraswati.

The scandal has highlighted serious misconduct allegations against Saraswati by female students pursuing PGDM courses under an Economically Weaker Section (EWS) scholarship at the institute. These allegations have sparked widespread attention and concern.
