Supreme Court refuses imposition of Governor's rule in J&K

New Delhi, July 29: The Supreme Court on Friday refused to impose Governor's rule in Jammu and Kashmir, but asked the union government for a status report on the ground level situation. The Supreme Court is hearing a petition filed by the J&K Panther's Party chief Bhim Singh.

The court directed the Solicitor General of India to file before it a status report on the ground situation in the state. The SC however warned the petitioner that he should not make political use out of this petition while also stating that the Bench would take stock of the situation.

The petitioner also mentioned before the Bench that the medical supplies were inadequate in the state where several are being treated for injuries in the wake of the protests.

The petitioner had stated that the whole of Jammu and Kashmir was paralysed in the wake of the ongoing protests and hence Governor's rule be imposed.

Kashmir had witnessed violent protests since the death of Hizbul Mujahideen commander, Burhan Wani. Curfew had been imposed in the state and life had been paralysed for nearly two weeks.
