PNG Price Fears and LPG Booking Glitches Add to Noida Household Worries
Global energy disruptions are gradually beginning to affect everyday life in India, with households starting to feel the pressure of rising fuel and food costs. In parts of Noida and neighbouring Ghaziabad, families say they are becoming increasingly cautious about spending as concerns grow over possible increases in cooking gas prices.
Many homes in the region rely on Piped Natural Gas (PNG) for daily cooking instead of LPG cylinders. While PNG supplies remain stable for now, residents worry that prolonged pressure on global energy markets could eventually push up piped gas prices as well.

Families Fear Possible PNG Price Increase
For middle-class households, cooking gas is one of the most essential monthly utilities. Even a small increase in PNG rates can affect household budgets, particularly when combined with rising costs of groceries, electricity and transportation.
Residents say they are closely following developments in global energy markets, aware that fluctuations in crude oil and gas supply often translate into higher domestic fuel prices.
LPG Booking Problems Add to Anxiety
At the same time, residents in Noida and Ghaziabad are facing long queues at LPG distribution centres as many households struggle to book cooking gas cylinders.
The situation worsened this week after technical glitches disrupted digital booking systems, including helplines and mobile apps used for LPG refills. With online systems temporarily unavailable, many residents were forced to visit gas agencies in person to place refill requests or check delivery schedules.
The sudden rush has led to long lines and growing frustration at LPG distributor offices across several neighbourhoods.
Rising Food Prices Change Household Habits
The pressure is also visible in changing household routines. Many families say they have reduced ordering food from restaurants as outside meals become more expensive.
One family in Noida said they earlier ordered food several times a week but now prefer cooking at home to control spending.
While this shift helps reduce expenses, it also increases dependence on cooking gas, which has raised concerns among families already worried about potential price increases.
LPG Refill Rules Tightened
Amid growing supply concerns, the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has directed oil marketing companies such as Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited to prioritise domestic households and essential non-domestic users in LPG distribution.
Authorities have also increased the minimum gap between domestic LPG refills from 21 days to 25 days, a change that has altered the usual ordering pattern for many families.
Officials say the revised rule is intended to maintain adequate supply for households during a period of global fuel uncertainty.
Residents Queue at LPG Agencies
Several residents reported repeated failed attempts to book cylinders through phone helplines.
Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Raj Nagar Extension, said he tried calling the booking number multiple times but could not get through. Concerned about running out of cooking gas, he eventually joined a queue outside a local LPG agency to request a refill.
Similar scenes were reported in several Noida sectors. Shalini Verma from Sector 62 said she tried booking through both mobile apps and phone lines from morning but received no response, forcing her to visit the distributor's office.
Digital Gap Adds to the Problem
The booking disruption also exposed the difficulties faced by people who depend on others to complete digital tasks. Some households said elderly residents and domestic workers who are unfamiliar with smartphone apps struggled when online booking systems failed.
Neighbours and employers often stepped in to help complete refill requests once services began to recover.
Black Market Prices Raise Concern
Amid the uncertainty, some residents also reported that black market sellers were offering LPG cylinders at prices up to three times the official rate.
Authorities have warned that strict action will be taken against hoarding and illegal sales of cylinders.
Officials Say Supplies Remain Adequate
District administrations in both Noida and Ghaziabad have said that domestic LPG supplies remain stable and that the main supply pressure is currently affecting commercial users.
Inspection teams have been formed to monitor LPG stocks, fuel sales and distributor operations to prevent hoarding and black marketing.
Officials have urged residents to rely only on official booking channels and avoid panic buying, assuring that oil companies continue to supply cylinders to households under the revised booking schedule.
