Republic Day 2025: Delhi Metro Tightens Security - What Commuters Need To Know
New Delhi: As the nation gears up for the Republic Day celebrations on January 26, authorities in Delhi are taking extra precautions to ensure the safety and smooth conduct of events. This includes intensified security checks across Metro stations and temporary restrictions on flight operations at Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA).

Republic Day 2025:Metro Security Checks Intensified
In preparation for Republic Day, the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has further intensified security measures at Metro stations across the city. The enhanced checks will remain in place until January 27, 2025, potentially leading to longer queues, particularly during peak hours. Commuters are urged to plan their journeys in advance and allow extra time for their travel to account for possible delays.
Passengers are also advised to cooperate with security personnel during the checks to ensure a smooth and efficient process. These increased measures are crucial for safeguarding the public and maintaining security during this important time.
Republic Day 2025: Flight Operations Affected at Delhi Airport
In addition to the heightened Metro security, flight operations at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport will also be temporarily restricted. From January 19 to January 26, 2025, no flights will be allowed to land or take off between 10:20 AM and 12:45 PM IST daily due to Republic Day security preparations. This restriction is expected to impact the daily flight movements at IGIA, which typically handles around 1,300 flights.
Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) confirmed the flight restrictions, urging passengers to check with their respective airlines for the latest updates. While the exact impact on individual flights remains unclear, travelers are advised to plan their journeys accordingly to avoid any inconvenience during these hours. The announcement was made via a tweet on X (formerly Twitter) by DIAL, emphasizing the temporary nature of these restrictions.
Conclusion: Plan Ahead for a Smooth Journey
As Republic Day approaches, both Metro and airport authorities are working diligently to ensure public safety and security. Commuters and travelers are encouraged to follow security guidelines, allow extra time for their journeys, and stay updated on the latest travel advisories. By planning ahead, passengers can help minimize disruptions and contribute to a smooth and secure Republic Day celebration.
