Republic Day 2025: Flight Operations Briefly Suspended at Delhi Airport Until Jan 26
As India gears up to celebrate its 76th Republic Day, the capital city is abuzz with preparations, including the much-anticipated parade rehearsals. These rehearsals have commenced on Kartavyapath, witnessing the participation of various contingents. To ensure a seamless execution of these practices, the Delhi Traffic Police have issued a traffic advisory. This includes restrictions on movements across several crossings such as Rafi Marg, Janpath, Mansingh Road, and the C-Hexagon on Kartavyapath. These restrictions are in place from 10:15 am to 12:30 pm from January 17 to 21, urging motorists to plan their journeys in advance to avoid any inconvenience.

In line with the ongoing preparations, significant security measures have been implemented throughout the city. One such measure includes the prohibition of drone operations or any sub-conventional aerial platforms across Delhi. This directive, effective from January 18 to February 1, has been issued to prevent any potential threats from anti-social elements or terrorists. The police commissioner, Sanjay Arora, emphasized the importance of this ban, noting its critical role in safeguarding the public, dignitaries, and vital installations during the Republic Day celebrations. Violators of this order will face penalties under section 223 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
Flight Restrictions Announced for Republic Day Celebrations
In addition to the on-ground preparations and security measures, flight operations at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport will face temporary disruptions. The airport operator has announced that all arrivals and departures will be halted from 10:20 am to 12:45 pm IST, extending till January 26. This pause in flight operations is due to the Republic Day week celebrations, necessitating airspace restrictions around the city.
Furthermore, Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has taken to social media to disseminate crucial information to travelers. A "Notice to Airmen" (NOTAM) advisory was shared, detailing the specific time slots during which no flights would be allowed to operate in and out of Delhi Airport. This advisory is part of a broader effort to ensure public awareness and minimize inconvenience. DIAL has also advised passengers to stay in constant communication with their respective airlines for the most updated flight information during this period.
