India celebrates Ram Navami with fervour (in pics)
New Delhi, April 8: Ram Navami is celebrated as the birth of Lord Rama, believed to be the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, born to King Dasharatha and Queen Kaushalya of Ayodhya.
Temples which host various avatars of Goddess Durga, close the nine-day Navratra celebration with fire sacrifice either on ashtami or navami day.
Hindus usually observe the day with chanting of mantras, fasting and reading passages from the Ramayana. The Ram Navami fast begins from sunrise and ends when it's sunset.
