Free LPG Cylinder For Holi? Delhi Govt’s 2026 Scheme Explained, Eligibility, Apply Online, Details Inside

A new welfare scheme has been approved by the Delhi government that will help low-income families by providing free LPG cooking gas.

This scheme was announced by the BJP-led Delhi government, as a way to alleviate the financial burden on families during major festivals, and it also fulfills an important promise made during the last assembly elections.

The cabinet has allocated Rs 300 crore towards the implementation of the scheme, which will be included in the government's 100-day priority programmes. It is expected that a large portion of those who hold ration cards in Delhi will benefit from the scheme.

Free LPG Support for Holi and Diwali

As part of the new welfare scheme, households in the Economically Weaker Section (EWS) will receive cash assistance equating to the cost of one LPG cylinder on both Holi and Diwali. The first benefit is expected to be available for Holi, which is this year.

According to officials, beneficiaries will consist of ration card holders identified as poor under the public distribution system, and these individuals are already listed in government records.

Eligible families will receive approximately Rs 850, which is the current price for an LPG cylinder.

Who Are Eligible?

-Residents of Delhi, Households belonging to the Economically Weaker Section (EWS),

-Families holding a valid ration card,

-Beneficiaries identified as poor under the Public Distribution System (PDS),

-Applicants must have an Aadhaar-linked bank account for Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT)

Not Cylinder But Cash!

The Delhi government has clarified that free LPG cylinders will not be physically distributed. Instead, the money equal to the cost of one gas cylinder will be transferred directly to the beneficiary's Aadhaar-linked bank account through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) system.

Under this process, beneficiaries will first purchase the LPG cylinder from authorised distributors, after which the government will refund the amount to their bank accounts.

Officials said this method will help maintain transparency and prevent misuse, including the illegal sale of free cylinders.

How to Apply for Free LPG Cylinders?

Residents do not need to apply separately for the free LPG cylinder scheme.
The Delhi government will automatically identify eligible beneficiaries using the existing ration card database. If you meet the eligibility criteria, the benefit will be credited directly to your bank account.

BJP Fulfils Key Poll Promise

The promise of providing free LPG cylinders on Holi and Diwali was a major part of the BJP's election manifesto. With the cabinet's approval and budget allocation, the government is now moving ahead to implement the scheme.

The administration is also working on another proposed benefit - supplying LPG cylinders at a subsidised rate of Rs 500 to women from poor families. Officials said that this plan is under discussion and will be implemented once eligibility criteria and updated data are finalised.

The free LPG support scheme is expected to offer much-needed financial relief to EWS families and help them celebrate festivals without the stress of rising cooking gas prices.
