Flu and Viral Fever Outbreak Intensifies in Delhi-NCR, Survey Reveals Sharp Rise in Cases
As cases of influenza and viral fever surge across Delhi-NCR, health experts are calling for an investigation into potential causes, including environmental factors, new viral mutations, and the lack of preventive measures.
Delhi-NCR is witnessing a rapid increase in influenza cases, including swine flu, with many residents reporting prolonged illness and severe symptoms. A recent survey conducted by LocalCircles, which gathered over 13,000 responses from residents of Delhi, Gurugram, Noida, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad, found that 54% of households have at least one family member experiencing symptoms associated with swine flu, such as fever, sore throat, cough, headache, stomach issues, joint pain, and respiratory problems.

The survey specifically asked residents how many individuals in their household were currently experiencing symptoms of Covid, flu, or viral fever. Out of the 13,938 respondents, 9% reported that four or more individuals in their household were unwell, while 45% stated that 2-3 members were experiencing symptoms. 36% of respondents reported that no one in their household was affected, and 10% did not provide a clear answer.
A comparison with data from August 2024 suggests a significant increase in illness due to Covid, flu, or viral fever. In August, 38% of households reported at least one family member being affected, whereas the latest survey shows that 54% of households now have at least one unwell member, indicating a concerning rise in cases.
The survey, conducted through the LocalCircles platform, included responses from a diverse group of residents, with 63% of respondents being men and 37% being women. All participants were verified citizens registered with LocalCircles.
LocalCircles is a leading community-based social media platform that allows citizens and small businesses to voice concerns on governance, public policy, and enforcement issues. It helps policymakers develop citizen and business-centric policies by gathering public feedback and conducting surveys on governance, public interest, and consumer-related issues.
With the current surge in cases, health experts stress the importance of taking preventive measures and monitoring environmental factors that could be contributing to the increasing spread of infections.
