Delhi polls: Aam Aadmi Party goes shopping for the 'jhaadu'

New Delhi, Nov 18: If you are in Delhi for the next few weeks and happen to see brooms everywhere, do not be surprised- its just the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) workers at work. The AAP is taking its mission of cleaning the political scenario in Delhi quite literally.

According to reports, the party is on a shopping spree and has purchased 1,200 brooms, which also is the party symbol and is often seen distributing brooms to people in order to make them aware of their ideals.

AAP leaders take their party symbol very seriously and are often seen carrying the broom wherever they go.

One AAP worker said that the party had purchased about 200 brooms as of August 3 but later on brought more brooms. "Our symbol sets us apart from Congress' hand symbol and the BJP's lotus symbol because they cannot carry the actual objects shown as their symbol," added the AAP worker.

The brooms are not just being procured for the main office but across all 70 constituencies in Delhi.

The humble broom however is not a permanent symbol for the party since it is not a national or a regional party, which get permanent symbols. "The Election Commission gave us a few options such as a tree or a hand pump. Since the broom is widely used and appeared to be the best tool that symbolised cleaning up Delhi's political system, we went for it," said an AAP leader.
