Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Announces Rs 5 Meals, Pucca Houses On Independence Day

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta marked Independence Day 2025 with significant announcements aimed at enhancing the lives of Delhi's residents. During the event at Mukhyamantri Seva Sadan, she introduced "Atal Canteens," which will offer meals to the needy for just Rs 5, underscoring the government's dedication to affordable food access.

"We're going to open Atal Canteens to provide meals at Rs 5 for needy in Delhi," stated Rekha Gupta during her 79th Independence Day speech. This initiative highlights the government's commitment to ensuring everyone has access to affordable food.

Housing and Environmental Initiatives

The Chief Minister also announced plans to rejuvenate the Yamuna River. She promised, "Delhi government will provide pucca houses to every slum resident in the city." Gupta emphasized clean waterways' importance, stating, "Our first resolve is that Mother Yamuna will be clean, Mother Yamuna will flow unhindered, and Mother Yamuna will give life again."

In addition to these initiatives, Gupta highlighted other key measures. The Education Bill aims to regulate private school fees following its passage in the Delhi Assembly. This move seeks to make education more accessible and affordable for all families in Delhi.

Support for Gig Workers and Healthcare Expansion

A welfare board for gig workers is set to be established, ensuring their well-being and addressing their unique challenges. This initiative reflects a growing recognition of gig workers' contributions and needs within the economy.

The Ayushman Bharat scheme's expansion in Delhi was another highlight. Since its implementation on the government's first day, it has registered 4.5 lakh residents. This expansion aims to provide broader healthcare access across the city.
