Delhi Deputy CM Sisodia becomes chairman of Delhi Jal Board

New Delhi, Feb 22: Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia has been appointed the new chairman of the Delhi Jal Board (DJB), although traditionally the post is held by the chief minister as water portfolio remains under him.

However, in case of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) that came to power in Delhi on February 14, the deputy CM holds the charge of the water portfolio and has been appointed the board's chairman. Sisodial held a meeting with the board officials on Friday.

"According to DJB rules, the CM is the chairman of the board because the water portfolio is traditionally under the CM but in this case the portfolio for water is with the deputy CM so he has been appointed as the chairman," official sources in DJB said.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, who took oath for the second time inside 15 months, has not kept any ministries under him and gave Sisodia with all important ministries, including water.

The AAP came to power with a massive mandate in the election held in Delhi on February 7.
