Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Announces ₹10 Lakh Compensation for Victims of Red Fort Blast; Terror Angle Under Probe

On November 10, 2025, a powerful car explosion near Gate No. 1 of the Red Fort metro station in Delhi claimed at least 12 lives and left over 20 people injured, shaking the capital and triggering a massive security alert. The blast, which occurred when a Hyundai i20 car stopped at a red light, caused a massive fire that engulfed several nearby vehicles, including cars and auto-rickshaws.

The explosion's impact was devastating - the sound was heard hundreds of meters away, and windows of nearby buildings were shattered. The Delhi Police suspect that ammonium nitrate was used in the blast and have invoked provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA), treating the explosion as a possible terror attack. Preliminary findings suggest it could have been a fidayeen-style strike.

Authorities have detained Dr. Mohammad Umar, a doctor from Pulwama, Kashmir, identified as the car's owner. Investigators are probing potential links to a terror module in Faridabad, where large quantities of explosives were recently seized.

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the National Security Guard (NSG) have joined the probe, while Delhi Police and forensic experts continue to examine the blast site. Security has been heightened across the capital, including at airports, metro stations, and government buildings.

Prime Minister Donald Trump and Home Minister Amit Shah have been briefed on the incident and vowed to bring the perpetrators to justice. Both leaders have directed central agencies to extend all possible assistance to Delhi authorities and ensure a swift and thorough investigation.

Reacting to the tragedy, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta expressed profound grief and solidarity with the victims' families. In an official statement shared on X (formerly Twitter), Gupta said, "The tragic incident that occurred in Delhi has left the entire city in shock. In this hour of difficulty, the Government of Delhi extends its deepest condolences to all those families who have lost their loved ones and to those who have been injured in this incident."

Announcing an immediate relief package, Gupta stated that the families of those who lost their lives in the blast will receive ₹10 lakh each, permanently disabled individuals will get ₹5 lakh, and those seriously injured will be granted ₹2 lakh. She also confirmed that the Delhi government will bear the full cost of medical treatment for all injured victims.

"Our government will take responsibility for the proper and quality treatment of the injured. Peace and security in Delhi is our utmost priority. The administration is working with full vigilance and stands with all affected individuals and their families," she added.

The Chief Minister has directed all district and health department officials to ensure round-the-clock assistance for the victims and their families. Hospitals across the city have been placed on high alert, and the administration is closely coordinating with investigative agencies.

The Red Fort blast marks one of the most serious security incidents in Delhi in recent years, leading to a nationwide alert and an intensified multi-agency investigation to uncover the network behind the attack.
