Delhi Blast: All Gates of Delhi Metro Chandni Chowk, Lal Quila Stations Closed: Sources

A powerful explosion near Delhi's Red Fort on Saturday evening has left at least eight people dead and several others injured. The blast, which occurred around 6:55 pm near Gate No. 1 of Lal Quila Metro Station, was so intense that it shattered nearby streetlights and flung vehicles up to 150 meters away, according to eyewitnesses.

The explosion caused extensive damage in the area - eight vehicles were damaged, and five to six were completely destroyed. The fire department dispatched 15 fire engines to douse the flames that spread to nearby shops and parked cars.

Following the incident, all gates of Chandni Chowk and Lal Quila Metro Stations have been shut as a precautionary measure, said Delhi Metro sources. The Delhi Police, Special Cell, and forensic teams are at the site to investigate the cause of the explosion.

Casualties and Emergency Response

According to officials, eight bodies were brought to LNJP Hospital, while four people have sustained serious injuries. The Eco van found at the site is currently being probed as a possible source of the blast.

Emergency services responded swiftly, and the fire was brought under control soon after. Senior police officers have cordoned off the area, and normal traffic movement near Red Fort has been restricted.

Heightened Security Measures

A red alert has been issued across Delhi, with security agencies on high alert. The development comes soon after authorities foiled a major terror plot in Faridabad, where nearly 2,900 kg of explosives were recovered.

In coordination, Mumbai Police have also intensified security, conducting nakabandis and random checks across sensitive locations to preempt any related threat.

Official Statement and Investigation

Senior officials from the Delhi Police Special Cell and National Investigation Agency (NIA) have reached the site. Forensic teams are working to ascertain the cause and nature of the explosion.

A police official said, "We are examining all angles, including possible terror involvement. The area will remain sealed until a full sweep is completed."

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm and avoid speculation or sharing unverified information on social media as the investigation continues.
