Delhi Weather Brings Relief: IMD Issues Yellow Alert For Rain, Thunderstorms And Gusty Winds; Check Forecast

Residents of Delhi are expected to experience a mix of heat, rain, and gusty winds as weather conditions remain unstable at the end of March.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert, indicating possible changes in weather, including light rain and thunderstorms.

Warm Start to the Week Despite Rain Chances

On Sunday, Delhi recorded a maximum temperature of 36.2°C, which was significantly above the seasonal average. The minimum temperature also stayed higher than usual at 19.8°C. Even though rain was predicted, the day remained mostly sunny, with strong winds blowing at speeds of up to 30 km per hour.

For Monday, the weather is expected to stay warm, with temperatures likely to hover around 31°C during the day and 21°C at night. However, conditions may change later in the day.

IMD Issues Yellow Alert for Rain and Thunderstorms

The India Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for Monday, warning of light to very light rainfall in the afternoon and evening hours.

The forecast also includes gusty winds reaching up to 40 km per hour. By night, thunderstorms and lightning are likely in parts of the city. These sudden changes may bring temporary relief from the heat but could also disrupt daily activities.

March Weather Remains Unpredictable

The month of March has seen mixed weather patterns in Delhi. While rainfall was recorded above normal levels-around 20% higher than usual-temperatures remained consistently above average.

The average maximum temperature for the month stood at 32.4°C, while the minimum averaged 17.4°C. This unusual combination of heat and rain has made the weather feel unpredictable for residents.

Weekly Forecast: What to Expect

The coming days are expected to bring a mix of cloudy skies, rising temperatures, and occasional rain.

On Tuesday, skies will remain generally cloudy with chances of light rain or drizzle, and temperatures will range between 30°C and 32°C. Wednesday and Thursday are likely to be partly cloudy, with temperatures gradually rising up to 36°C.

By Friday, the heat may intensify further, with temperatures touching 37°C, although light rain or drizzle is again expected. On Saturday, temperatures may drop slightly, with cloudy skies and chances of light rainfall continuing.

Overall, the week will see fluctuating conditions with both heat and intermittent showers.

Air Quality Remains in 'Moderate' Range

According to the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB), Delhi's Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 194 on Sunday evening, placing it in the 'moderate' category.

An AQI in this range may cause mild discomfort for sensitive individuals, but it is generally considered acceptable for most people. However, continued weather fluctuations could impact air quality levels in the coming days.
