Congress Faces Hat-Trick Rout In Delhi As Most Exit Polls Predict Abysmal Performance

Once a dominant force in Delhi politics, the Congress party is staring at yet another defeat in the 2025 Assembly elections, with most exit polls predicting a dismal performance in the national capital.

From 1998 to 2013, Congress ruled Delhi, but it has failed to make a significant impact in the last two Assembly elections. In 2015 and 2020, the party was wiped out, failing to secure a single seat. This time, most exit polls predict that Congress will once again fail to make its mark.

The focus is now on the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is widely expected to secure a comfortable victory, potentially ending Arvind Kejriwal's tenure as Delhi Chief Minister.

People's Pulse predicted a landslide win for the BJP, forecasting between 51 and 60 seats for the saffron party, with the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) expected to win just 10 to 19 seats. It also predicted Congress would once again fail to secure any seats.

The Chanakya Strategies exit poll was a little more optimistic for Congress, projecting three seats for the party. However, it still gave the BJP a strong lead with 39 to 44 seats and AAP 25 to 28 seats.

Matirize was the only exit poll to suggest a neck-and-neck battle, predicting 35 to 40 seats for the BJP and 32 to 37 seats for AAP, with Congress getting a paltry 0 to 1 seat.

Other exit polls, including JVC, P-Marq, People's Insight, and Poll Diary, also leaned in favour of the BJP, with Congress failing to make any significant gains.

Looking back at the 2015 and 2020 elections, the AAP has clearly dominated. In 2015, AAP secured 67 out of 70 seats, leaving the BJP with just 3 seats and Congress with none. In 2020, AAP again triumphed with 62 seats, while the BJP won 8 seats.

With such bleak predictions for Congress, it seems unlikely that the party will recover its former stature in Delhi anytime soon.
