AAP Accuses BJP of 'Attacking' Arvind Kejriwal's Convoy During New Delhi Campaign, Calls It 'Cowardly Act'

On Saturday, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of attempting to disrupt Arvind Kejriwal's door-to-door campaign in the New Delhi Assembly constituency ahead of the upcoming elections.

AAP claimed that BJP supporters threw a stone at Kejriwal's vehicle during the campaign, reported India Today.

AAP released a video of the incident, which it said shows a stone landing on Kejriwal's car.

"BJP candidate Pravesh Verma's goons attacked Arvind Kejriwal with stones while he was campaigning and tried to hurt him so that he could not campaign. BJP people, Kejriwal ji is not going to be scared of your cowardly attack, the people of Delhi will give you a befitting reply," AAP said in a post on X, along with the video.

The video also featured individuals waving black flags near the convoy, which AAP claimed was a deliberate attempt to disrupt the campaign.

AAP leader Manish Sisodia also condemned the alleged attack, accusing the BJP of sending goons to target Kejriwal.

He said, "The Bharatiya Janata Party is a party of panicked cowards! If you don't have the courage to counter Arvind Kejriwal's work, you resort to sending your goons to attack him. There can be no cheaper or lower-level politics than what the BJP is doing. The BJP should understand that the public will now give you a befitting reply for this act of cowardice."

Shortly after AAP's accusations, BJP MP Parvesh Verma posted a video alleging that Kejriwal's convoy had run over two people during the campaign in the New Delhi constituency.

"When the people were asking questions, Arvind Kejriwal hit two youngsters with his car. Both were taken to Lady Hardinge Hospital. Seeing defeat in front, he forgot the value of people's lives. I am going to the hospital," Parvesh Verma, BJP candidate from New Delhi, wrote on X.

However, Delhi Police sources have dismissed AAP's claims, stating that "no attack took place."

According to the sources, "Arvind Kejriwal was holding a public meeting at Lal Bahadur Sadan when some BJP workers arrived, wanting to ask questions. This led to slogan-shouting from both sides. The police intervened and dispersed people from both groups to control the situation."

The New Delhi Assembly constituency is a crucial battleground in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, set for February 5.

Arvind Kejriwal, former Chief Minister, is contesting from New Delhi, while Congress has nominated Sandeep Dikshit, son of the late Sheila Dikshit, and the BJP has fielded Parvesh Verma, a former MP from West Delhi and son of former Chief Minister Sahib Singh Verma.
