Mysuru Dasara 2024: Hunsur Sends 9 Jumbos On Their Way To Mysuru
Mysuru Dasara Festival (Mysuru Dasara 2024): The Gajapayana (elephant procession) ceremony, a significant ritual, took place at Veeranahosahalli in Hunsur city. On August 21, during the auspicious timing from 10:20 to 10:45 AM, a floral tribute and aarti were conducted for the 9 Dasara elephants also known as jumbos, marking the beginning of the Gajapayana.
From 10:45 to 11:20 AM, the elephants were led from the worship area to the platform. At 11:20 AM, the platform program commenced. The dignitaries present gave speeches, followed by a felicitation ceremony for the elephant handlers. After that, cultural programs by local artists and school students took place.

Nine elephants will journey to Mysuru for the Dasara 2024 festivities, arriving at the palace on August 23. DCF (wildlife) IB Prabhu Gowda announced that special pujas were offered to the elephants by forest minister Eshwar B Khandre and district minister HC Mahadevappa.
Fourteen Elephants to Arrive in Mysuru:
In the first phase, nine elephants led by Abhimanyu will arrive in Mysuru. In the second phase, five elephants will arrive. Additionally, four reserve elephants have been identified. Only fourteen elephants will come to Mysuru, with reserve elephants being called only if needed. Arrangements have been made in the palace premises for the accommodation of the elephants, handlers, and mahouts.
This Year's Dasara Dates:
This year, the state government has planned a grand Dasara celebration. The festival will be held from October 3 to 12. The Jamboo Savari (grand procession) will take place on October 12. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah confirmed that the Dasara festival will be celebrated from October 3 to 12, with Navaratri taking place from October 3 to 11, and the inauguration on October 3.
Grand Dasara This Year:
This year's Dasara is set to be more grand than usual. With farmers content and water bodies full, the celebration will be more vibrant compared to last year's simpler festivities due to drought. Cultural programs will begin on the inauguration day, along with lighting arrangements. The Dasara exhibition, wrestling displays, and youth sports events will start on the same day.
21 Days of Lighting:
The exhibition will reflect the government's achievements. Instructions have been given to ensure that all events start on time. This year, the lighting arrangements will last for 21 days, with the display expected to be more attractive than last time. The Chief Minister has also given instructions to K. J. George regarding this.
