Orange Line Progress: 23.57 km Kalyan–Taloja Metro Achieves Key Construction Milestone

Mumbai Metro Line 12 (Kalyan-Taloja) has marked a major construction achievement with the successful installation of its 100th U-girder near the Dombivli MIDC Metro Station on Shilphata Road. Developed by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA), this milestone reflects accelerated progress on the 23.57 km elevated corridor, which will feature 19 stations and connect Kalyan to the upcoming Navi Mumbai International Airport. The project remains on track for completion by May 2028, promising improved connectivity and a greener mobility network for commuters across Thane and Navi Mumbai.

A 23.57 km Green Mobility Route

The fully elevated Orange Line spans 23.57 kilometres, linking Kalyan, Dombivli, and Taloja before eventually extending its reach to the Navi Mumbai International Airport. Designed to ease traffic congestion and promote sustainable transport solutions, the corridor includes 19 stations and is expected to boost transit-oriented development along the Kalwa-Taloja stretch.

Engineering Features and Structural Highlights

Running parallel to the Kalwa-Shilphata-Taloja alignment, the metro line incorporates an integrated system that includes a 7 km MSRDC flyover. The project features several notable engineering elements such as a 100-metre clear span near Kolegaon, a 75-metre steel structure at Taloja ROB, and multiple crossings over significant rail and road networks. With station heights ranging between 21 and 23 metres, the elevated structures are being designed with passenger convenience and accessibility in mind.

Interchange Connections for Seamless Travel

Once operational, the Orange Line will offer important interchange facilities: at Kalwa with Metro Line 5, at Hedutne with Line 14, and at Amandut with Navi Mumbai Metro Line 1. Additionally, a dedicated foot overbridge (FOB) at Kalwa Junction will provide direct connectivity to the Central Railway network, making travel smoother for daily commuters.

Rapid On-Ground Development

Key project milestones completed so far include the Kalyan-Manpada survey, the construction of the first pile, pier cap and U-girder erection, and the establishment of a fully functional batching plant. Civil work and pier construction continue to advance quickly, while land acquisition and rehabilitation activities are progressing in the Patripul and Amandut areas.

As the MMRDA pushes forward with this extensive metro expansion, the Kalyan-Taloja corridor is set to significantly improve the region's public transport landscape and contribute to a better quality of urban living across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
