Nagpur Communal Violence: 30 Injured, 20 Detained After 2 Groups Clashed - Key Points
Nagpur Police on Monday night issued prohibitory orders in the city after the stone pelting and arson incident in the Mahal area.
The authorities have detained 20 people in connection with the incident and the situation is under control. At least 30 people have been injured in the clashes that broke out between two groups.

- The clashes broke out following the rumours of the holy Quran were burnt down during the protests by the Hindu groups who demanded the removal of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb's tomb in Maharashtra's Sambhaji Nagar.
- About 200-250 members took part in the protests. The protesters raised slogans demanding the grave's removal and displayed a symbolic green cloth filled with cow dung cakes, ANI reported.
- In view of the incident, the curfew is applied to police station limits in Kotwali, Ganeshpeth, Tehsil, Lakadganj, Pachpaoli, Shantinagar, Sakkardara, Nandanvan, Imamwada, Yashodharanagar, and Kapilnagar. "During the lockdown period, no person should go out of the house for any reason other than medical reasons, nor should more than five people gather inside it. Also, orders are passed to prohibit spreading any kind of rumour, prohibiting doing all such acts," the police order read.
- Later, masked men vandalized shops, torched vehicles, and pelted stones in Hansapuri area. An eyewitness explained: "A team came here, their faces were hidden with scarves. They had sharp weapons, stickers, and bottles in their hands. They started the ruckus, vandalized shops, and pelted stones. They also torched vehicles," the eyewitness said.
- The early morning visuals shared by news agencies such as ANI and PTI indicate that the situation is returning to normal.
- Union minister Nitin Gadkari, MP from Nagpur constituency, also appealed to the people to maintain peace. He said that the tension started "due to certain rumors". "I assure you all that the government will take action against those who have committed mistakes or engaged in illegal activities. The Chief Minister has already been informed about this situation, so I request everyone not to pay attention to rumours," he added.
- Maharashtra Congress President Harshvardhan Sapkal has lashed at the ruling party over the incident. "It is a failure of the Home Department that there is such a stress in this city, stone pelting and arson, and the Police did not have any intel about it. For the past few days, the cabinet minister of the state has been trying to create social agony by making provocative statements."
