Mumbai's Railway Network Upgraded: New Stations Added To Amrit Bharat Scheme For Major Revamp
In a significant development for Mumbai's suburban railway network, four additional stations have been included in the Amrit Bharat Station Scheme, bringing the total number of stations under this initiative to 38. The newly added stations are Dadar, Panvel, Kandivli, and Dahisar.
An Indian Railways spokesperson confirmed, "Dadar and Panvel have been added to the list for the Central Railway (CR) suburban section, while Kandivli and Dahisar are now part of the Western Railway (WR) suburban sections."

This expansion brings the total to 38 stations, which includes existing CR Mumbai division stations such as Byculla, Chinchpokli, Parel, Matunga, Kurla, Vidyavihar, Vikhroli, Kanjurmarg, Mumbra, Diva, Shahad, Titwala, Igatpuri, Lonavala, Wadala Road, and Sandhurst Road. On the WR Mumbai division, the list includes Marine Lines, Charni Road, Grant Road, Lower Parel, Prabhadevi, Malad, Jogeshwari Coaching Terminal, and Palghar, along with 10 non-suburban stations including Umbergaon, Sanjan, Vapi, Bilimora, Sachin, Bhestan, Bardoli, Nandurbar, Amalner, and Dharangaon.
The spokesperson highlighted that Dadar, Panvel, Kandivli, and Dahisar were chosen for their high passenger traffic. "Work on these stations will commence soon. The funds allocated will match the needs of the newly identified stations," he added.
The Amrit Bharat Station Scheme aims to enhance the infrastructure of railway stations across Indian Railways. In Maharashtra, 132 stations have been earmarked for redevelopment under this scheme. The initiative involves creating master plans and implementing them in phases to upgrade station facilities.
"Improvements will focus on enhancing station access, waiting areas, and sanitation facilities. Upgrades will include the installation of lifts and escalators, improved passenger information systems, executive lounges, and designated spaces for business meetings. Additionally, efforts will be made to improve building aesthetics, landscaping, and better integration with the city," the official explained.
