Mumbai's Lakes Overflow: Water Levels Surge Past 70% After Heavy Rains, Water Cuts Lifted
After more than a week of relentless rain, the city's water supply situation has improved significantly. As of 6:00 AM on July 29, lake levels have risen by several inches, bringing the overall water stock above 70 per cent. With half of the monsoon season still remaining, the city is now in a stable condition regarding its water supply.
For the third consecutive year, the city experienced a 10 per cent water cut during the rainy season. This restriction was lifted on Sunday as the combined lake levels surpassed 70 per cent. Last year, the water cut was only lifted when the levels reached 75 per cent. Currently, the combined water stock stands at 73 per cent.

Tulsi Lake: Full capacity at 8046 million litres (100 per cent).
Vihar Lake: Full capacity at 27698 million litres (100 per cent).
Tansa Lake: Full capacity at 144775 million litres (100 per cent).
Modak Sagar Lake: Full capacity at 128925 million litres (100 per cent).
Bhatsa Lake: Over 70 per cent capacity at 456837 million litres.
Middle Vaitarna Lake: Over 70 per cent capacity at 166067 million litres.
Upper Vaitarna Lake: Still below half capacity at 100686 million litres.
Total useful content across all lakes is 1067703 million litres, with a combined percentage of useful content at 71.84 per cent.
Recent rainfall has contributed significantly to these levels. Bhatsa Lake alone has received 15 millimetres of rainfall, while Modak Sagar recorded 11 millimetres. This substantial increase in water levels ensures a steady water supply for the city, alleviating concerns over water shortages for the remainder of the year.
