Mumbai Weather Today: IMD Issues Yellow Alert; Check Weather Forecast For June 20
This morning, Mumbai woke up to cloudy skies and morning rainfall across various parts of the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast a cloudy sky with potentially heavy rain and issued a yellow alert for Mumbai today. The current weather conditions are causing some disruptions, including waterlogged streets and slowed traffic. Residents are advised to stay indoors during periods of heavy rain and lightning and to exercise caution when travelling.
The maximum temperature is expected to reach 33 degrees Celsius, while the minimum will likely be around 25 degrees Celsius. Humidity levels are currently at 74 per cent, according to a report by the Hindustan Times. This high humidity, combined with the warm temperatures, contributes to the muggy and often uncomfortable weather conditions that Mumbaikars are experiencing.

According to IMD reports, Significant Rainfall Measurements (08:30 IST Yesterday to 05:30 IST Today) have been predicted. The Mumbai region has recorded notable rainfall over the past 24 hours, with specific areas experiencing varying levels of precipitation:
Dahisar: 118 mm
Mira Road: 95.5 mm
Bhayander: 73.0 mm
Ram Mandir: 45.0 mm
Mumbai Airport: 31 mm
Colaba: 28 mm
Further, Light to moderate rainfall is likely to continue over Mumbai's suburban areas within the next three hours. Residents are advised to prepare for wet conditions and take necessary precautions to stay safe during this period.
June in Mumbai typically sees high temperatures, ranging between 28 degrees Celsius to 31 degrees Celsius. The month is characterised by frequent rainfall, with an average of 15 to 22 days of rain. This pattern is consistent with the city's tropical monsoon climate, which brings heavy precipitation during this time of year.
Currently, a cyclonic circulation is present over the Northeast Arabian Sea adjoining Saurashtra at lower and middle levels, and another over the Westcentral Bay of Bengal adjoining Coastal Andhra Pradesh at lower tropospheric levels. Under these influences, isolated heavy rainfall is expected over Konkan & Goa and the ghat areas of Central Maharashtra and Gujarat on June 20 and 21.
The IMD bulletin stated that conditions are favourable for the further advance of the Southwest Monsoon into more parts of Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, and the Northwest Bay of Bengal, as well as parts of Gangetic West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, and regions of Bihar and Jharkhand over the next three to four days.
Monsoon Update
The monsoon set in over Kerala and the northeastern states on May 30, arriving two days earlier in Kerala and six days earlier in northeast India than usual. However, the northward progression of the monsoon has been gradual, covering Kerala, Karnataka, Rayalaseema, Goa, Telangana, most parts of South Maharashtra, South Chhattisgarh, South Odisha, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, and the northeastern states by June 12. Since then, the monsoon has not progressed much.
