Mumbai Weather Alert: Heavy Rainfall Expected Today, IMD Warns
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issues its latest weather alert for Mumbai, forecasting a cloudy sky accompanied by heavy rainfall throughout the day. The city is currently under a Yellow Alert. The IMD has projected that the maximum temperature will hover around 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to be around 24 degrees Celsius.
June typically marks the beginning of the monsoon season in Mumbai, characterized by high temperatures ranging from 28 to 31 degrees Celsius. The city usually experiences frequent rainfall during this month, with an average of 15 to 22 rainy days. This period of heavy precipitation is crucial for replenishing water supplies and supporting the local ecosystem. However, it also brings challenges such as waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and potential flooding. The ongoing heavy rainfall is expected to persist, offering both relief from the summer heat and posing challenges to the daily lives of Mumbai's residents.

Mumbai Five-Day Weather Forecast
The IMD has detailed the weather conditions for Mumbai over the next five days. On June 28, the city is expected to experience a minimum temperature of 25 degrees Celsius and a maximum of 33 degrees Celsius, with a cloudy sky and moderate rain. Similar weather conditions are predicted for June 29, with the same temperature range and weather pattern. On June 30, the minimum temperature will remain at 25 degrees Celsius, while the maximum will slightly decrease to 32 degrees Celsius, continuing the trend of a cloudy sky with moderate rain. For July 1 and 2, the forecast predicts rain, with temperatures expected to range between 24 and 31 degrees Celsius. This consistent pattern of rain and moderate temperatures is characteristic of Mumbai's monsoon season.
Maharashtra Rainfall Prediction
In a broader forecast for Maharashtra, the IMD has indicated the possibility of above-average rainfall in most regions of the state. The meteorological patterns suggest that the 'El Nino' condition, which can influence weather patterns globally, is expected to remain neutral in the initial phase of the monsoon. However, as the monsoon progresses into July and August, there is a likelihood of 'La Nina' conditions developing. 'La Nina' is generally associated with enhanced monsoon activity in India, and its occurrence could be favourable for robust monsoon rains this year, aiding agriculture and water reservoirs across the region.
Weather Alerts for Other Regions
A Yellow Alert has been issued by the IMD for the districts of Thane, Sindhudurg, Pune, and Satara, predicting heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places. Additionally, a Yellow Alert has been issued for Aurangabad, Jalna, Parbhani, Hingoli, Nanded, Amravati, Bhandara, Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, and Wardha. These areas are expected to experience thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds, reaching speeds of 40 to 50 kilometres per hour. Moreover, an Orange Alert has been issued for Raigad and Ratnagiri, where heavy to very heavy rainfall is anticipated at isolated places.
Monsoon Update
The IMD has also provided an update on the progress of the Southwest Monsoon. Conditions are becoming favourable for the monsoon's further advance into the remaining parts of the North Arabian Sea, Gujarat State, Madhya Pradesh, and some more parts of Rajasthan. Additionally, the monsoon is expected to progress into the remaining parts of Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, most parts of East Uttar Pradesh, and some more parts of West Uttar Pradesh.
The monsoon will also likely advance into parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, and the northern parts of Punjab and Haryana over the next three to four days.
