The severe rainfall in Mumbai has caught residents off guard, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue a red alert for the city. At least, four people have died due to rain-related incidents.
Four Lives Lost in 24 Hours

The relentless downpour has resulted in tragic incidents across the city. A 45-year-old woman drowned after falling into an open drain in Andheri, while three others in Kalyan and Thane were killed by lightning strikes. The woman, Vimal Gaikwad, was rescued by authorities but tragically passed away.
Waterlogging and Landslides Disrupt City Life
Severe waterlogging and traffic jams plagued many areas of Mumbai. Commuters were seen walking along the railway tracks at Chunabhatti station due to flooded tracks. A landslide at the Mumbra bypass further exacerbated the situation, causing major traffic disruptions.

Schools and Colleges Shut Down
In response to the red alert, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) ordered the closure of all schools and colleges in the city for safety reasons. The BMC urged citizens to stay indoors unless necessary, highlighting the severity of the situation.
Flights Delayed and Diverted
The rain also affected flight operations, with 14 flights being diverted from Mumbai Airport to other cities due to poor weather conditions. Indigo, Vistara, Air India, Akasa, and Gulf Air were among the airlines impacted, with flights redirected to Hyderabad, Ahmedabad, Goa, and Udaipur.
Airlines Issue Travel Advisories
IndiGo, Air India, and SpiceJet issued advisories urging passengers to check their flight statuses before heading to the airport, given the heavy waterlogging and traffic delays across the city.
Local Train Services Resume
While Mumbai's local train services faced disruptions on Wednesday, they have since resumed normal operations, bringing some relief to commuters after the rain-induced chaos.
