Mumbai Rain Update: Lake Water Stock Rises To 38.5% Amid Steady Monsoon Showers
Mumbai's water supply situation has seen notable improvement as monsoon rains continue across the city and its catchment areas. As per the latest update from the Hydraulic Engineer's Department, recorded at 6:00 AM on Saturday, June 28, 2025, the cumulative water stock in Mumbai's seven lakes has reached 5,58,350 million litres. This accounts for approximately 38.5% of the city's annual requirement of 14.47 lakh million litres.
The rise in storage levels is attributed to consistent rainfall over recent days in the catchment zones. On Thursday alone, the Bhandup Complex recorded 8 mm of rainfall, bringing the season's total there to 459 mm. Most of the key reservoirs have reported either steady water levels or gradual increases, reflecting positive storage trends.

Seven Lakes Storage Update (as of June 28, 2025, 6:00 AM):
- Upper Vaitarna: Water level at 599.49 metres (up by 0.12 m), storing 102,814 million litres
- Modak Sagar: At 155.50 metres, with 69,732 million litres
- Tansa: Water level at 263.04 metres (up by 0.79 m), storing 78,924 million litres
- Middle Vaitarna: At 120.50 metres (up by 0.70 m), with 231,920 million litres
- Bhatsa: Holding steady at 76.87 metres, storing 11,691 million litres
- Vehar: At 135.05 metres (up by 0.02 m), storing 3,250 million litres
- Tulsi: Also at 135.05 metres, with a total of 558,350 million litres
The total combined storage capacity of these lakes is 1,447,363 million litres. Rainfall recorded today is 5.00 mm, bringing the cumulative total for June to 464.00 mm. Water distribution to the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM) is currently active from Bhatsa, and operations at both Upper Vaitarna and Middle Vaitarna continue as normal. While some reservoirs have shown significant gains, others remain stable with minor fluctuations, highlighting a mixed but improving picture.
