Mumbai Metro Line 3: Check The New Station Names That Reflect The City’s Identity
The Union Government has given approval to rename 11 stations on the Mumbai Metro Line 3, also known as the Colaba-Bandra-SEEPZ corridor. This underground aqua line stretches over 33.5 kilometres and consists of 27 stations. The partial commissioning of the route, between Aarey and Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), is set to take place next week, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi expected to inaugurate the service between October 3 and 5.
The initial section being opened spans 12.5 kilometres and features 10 stations. However, before passenger services can begin, inspections by the Commissioner of Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) must be completed, and a safety certification is still awaited.

The Mumbai Metro Rail Corporation (MMRC), responsible for the construction, is also working on completing the remaining sections of Metro Line 3. The full stretch is expected to be operational by March 2025.
Some of the key stations have been renamed to better reflect their locations and significance. For example, the previously named "International" and "Domestic" Airport stations will now be called Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport - T1 and Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport - T2, respectively.
The Bandra station, which was earlier misnamed, has now been updated to Bandra Kurla Complex (BKC), reflecting its exact location within the business hub.

Here is a list of the newly renamed stations:
Mumbai Central Metro → Jagannath Shankar Sheth Metro
Science Museum → Science Centre
Shitaladevi Temple → Shitala Devi Mandir
Vidyanagari → Bandra Colony
