Mumbai Local Train Services Update: Devendra Fadnavis Promises 300 New Trains And Mega Terminal At Vasai

Former Maharashtra Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, assured that his party would deliver on its promise of adding 300 more local train services in Mumbai, as per the Mid-day report. In a post on social media, he highlighted that the Railway Ministry was working hard to ease congestion on the city's railway network.

Fadnavis announced the arrival of 300 new local trains, along with a major rail terminal at Vasai. He explained that the approval of three key railway projects would significantly contribute to Maharashtra's development. These projects include the third line between Prayagraj and Manikpur, the third and fourth lines between Bhusawal and Khandwa, and the fourth line between Manmad and Jalgaon. He also mentioned a new corridor linking Mumbai to Purvanchal, which forms part of a larger initiative to improve port connectivity.

For Mumbai, the focus will be on increasing the capacity of terminals at Parel, Lokmanya Tilak Terminus (LTT), Kalyan, and Panvel on the Central Railway, as well as Mumbai Central and Bandra on the Western Railway. A new terminal at Jogeshwari and the mega rail terminal at Vasai are also in the pipeline. Fadnavis emphasized that these developments would bring long-term benefits, improving travel for millions of Mumbaikars while enhancing connectivity, trade, and traffic flow in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR).

A senior railway official confirmed in the report that the plans, revealing that the government had sanctioned a Rs 16,240 crore initiative for the MMR, which includes 12 major projects. These will expand the network by an additional 301.5 km of track, effectively doubling current services. The official also mentioned that the construction of the Vasai bypass line and the 29.6 km Panvel-Karjat corridor is underway. The projects, expected to be completed in the coming years, represent a substantial investment in Mumbai's railway infrastructure.
