Mumbai Lakes Water Level Today: Lakes Near Full Capacity With 95.94 Per cent Stock

Mumbai's lakes, vital for the city's drinking water supply, have reached a near-full capacity, with the collective water stock now standing at 13,88,614 million litres, which is 95.94 per cent of their total capacity, according to the latest data from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).

Mumbai sources its water from seven lakes: Tulsi, Tansa, Vihar, Bhatsa, Modak Sagar, Upper Vaitarna, and Middle Vaitarna. The current water levels in these lakes are impressive, reflecting the significant impact of recent heavy rainfall. Notably, Modak Sagar, Vihar, and Tulsi lakes have reached 100 per cent capacity. Tansa Lake is close behind at 98.37 per cent, followed by Middle Vaitarna at 97.47 per cent, Upper Vaitarna at 95.33 per cent, and Bhatsa at 94.30 per cent.

Mumbai Lakes Water Level Today

The BMC reported that Middle Vaitarna Lake began overflowing on July 4 due to persistent heavy rains. This was followed by Vihar and Modak Sagar lakes on July 25, with Tansa Lake joining the list on July 24, overflowing at around 4 pm. This sudden increase in water levels has added 17 days' worth of water to the city's reserves in just one day.

Tansa Lake, which is located in the Shahpur region of Thane, contributes approximately 400 million gallons of water daily to Mumbai. It overflowed on July 26, 2024, further boosting the city's water supply.

Tulsi Lake, one of the two lakes that directly supply water to the BMC, also started overflowing on July 20 at around 8:30 am, mirroring an event from the previous year that occurred at 1:28 pm on the same date.

Mumbai Weather Today

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rainfall for Mumbai on Friday. According to the latest Mumbai weather update, the city and its suburbs are expected to experience a "partly cloudy sky with the possibility of light to moderate rain."

The maximum temperature in Mumbai is expected to settle at around 32 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to be around 26 degrees Celsius. Additionally, the BMC has predicted a high tide of 3.22 metres at 10:02 pm.
