Mumbai-Goa Highway Hit By New Year Traffic Surge; Police Issue Advisory For South Mumbai

The Mumbai-Goa highway is currently experiencing heavy traffic congestion due to the increased number of vehicles heading to Goa and Alibaug for New Year celebrations, coupled with ongoing road construction work, as per the Midday report. A police official confirmed the situation, stating that areas such as Lonere, Mangaon, and Indapur Poinad near Mumbai have been heavily affected by traffic jams since Monday.

With the rush of people travelling to popular destinations in Maharashtra's Raigad district, the traffic bottlenecks have been exacerbated by the roadwork. The official added that local police are working tirelessly to clear the traffic snarls, while efforts to ease congestion on the highway are ongoing.

Mumbai Police Issues Traffic Advisory For South Mumbai

As Mumbai prepares for the New Year celebrations, the city's Traffic Police have issued a comprehensive advisory for motorists. The advisory includes a list of traffic restrictions in south Mumbai, which will be in effect from 15:00 hrs on December 31 until 06:00 hrs on January 1.

To ensure the smooth flow of traffic and the safety of pedestrians during the celebrations, certain traffic regulations will be enforced. These include road closures, no-parking zones, and special parking arrangements. However, emergency vehicles, including the Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, and ambulances, will be allowed access.

In particular, there will be no parking allowed in the Colaba and Marine Drive Traffic Divisions. Authorities are encouraging people to use public transport, especially local trains, to avoid disruptions.

The Mumbai Coastal Road will remain open for vehicular traffic from 23:00 hrs on December 31 to 23:00 hrs on January 1.
