Earlier today, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde inspected the new stretch, accompanied by Municipal Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani and other senior officials. Shinde highlighted that the project is 91 per cent complete and urged the administration to expedite the remaining work.

He remarked that the coastal road would provide much-needed relief to the people of Mumbai. "...From Haji Ali Point to Bindu Madhav Chowk, this road is connected... People will be able to travel directly to the airport..." he added.

Project Overview

The Mumbai Coastal Road Project, with a budget of Rs 13,983 crore, began construction on October 13, 2018. Once complete, it will provide a direct connection to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link, significantly reducing travel time between South Mumbai and the suburbs, and improving the overall commuting experience for residents and visitors alike.

Phased Openings

In the first phase, the BMC opened a 9.5 kilometre-long southbound corridor of the Coastal Road from Bindu Madhav Chowk in Worli to Marine Drive on March 11. The southbound carriageway, inaugurated by CM Shinde, is open every day from 7 am to 11 pm, with entry closures at Bindu Madhav Thackeray Chowk on weekends. This was followed by the opening of a 6.25 km-long northbound carriageway between Marine Drive and Lotus Junction at Haji Ali on June 10.

Operating Hours And Access

Vehicles can use this northbound corridor from Monday to Friday between 7 am and 11 pm. However, it will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays to allow for the completion of the remaining project work. The BMC emphasized that this section is temporarily opened to facilitate vehicles travelling to the Bandra-Worli Sea Link from the Coastal Road.
