Mumbai-Ahmedabad Highway Alert: Hydrogen Truck Explodes, Paralyzing Traffic
In a tragic incident early Saturday, a truck carrying hydrogen gas cylinders overturned and caught fire on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad highway in Palghar district, Maharashtra. The fire led to multiple explosions of the hydrogen cylinders, causing significant disruption. The driver of the truck suffered minor injuries, according to police officials.
The incident occurred near Vasai on the Gujarat side, causing major traffic jams on the highway. Vehicles heading towards Gujarat were halted, while those travelling towards Mumbai faced delays. The Times of India reported that the Thane city traffic police advised motorists to avoid using Ghodbunder road to travel towards Vasai and Gujarat, temporarily diverting traffic via Bhiwandi to manage the situation.

Vasai Virar City Municipal Corporation officials promptly arrived at the scene to control the fire and ensure public safety. After several hours of effort, they managed to extinguish the blaze. However, traffic remains affected as officials work to clear the wreckage and restore normal traffic flow.
Heavy Monsoon
Last month, heavy rainfall at the start of the monsoon season in Mumbai made commuting on the Mumbai-Ahmedabad National Highway challenging. The downpour left drivers dealing with potholes and waterlogging on the highway. Several videos surfaced on social media showing vehicles piled up on the road due to the adverse conditions.
